Designed to
enable the designer to demonstrate process physics and chemistry. The
student will explain operations and maintenance fundamentals of selected in-line
components and equipment. Students will gain exposure to how components work in
a "real life" setting through interaction with the Process Technology lab
equipment to create pressure changes through manipulations of plant component
models.
The candidate
will use a Computer Aided Design (CAD) system to correctly represent a schematic
P&ID drawing in AutoCAD and backup electronic client files appropriately.
Lecture will be during lab session.
The candidate
will design pipe within the capabilities of generally accepted pipe fabrication,
assembly and inspection practices. Lecture topics will cover:
Introduction to Process Plant Design
Pipe Manufacturing & Fabrication
Pipe Assembly
Pipe and Weld Materials
CAD
The candidate
will perform basic pipe layout calculations and uses a Computer Aided Design
(CAD) system to correctly represent dimensioned piping drawings and backup
electronic client files appropriately.
The candidate
will identify and explain the application of basic process equipment, pipe,
valves, and fittings from photographs, drawings or generally accepted 2D and 3D
symbols and identifies their nozzles and other points of connection and
attachment.
Compressors
Valve Types & Applications
Self-Actuated Valves
Pumps
The candidate
will use generally accepted practices to route, support and assure pipe stays
within an existing layout of process equipment arrangement. The candidate
is also trained to identify situations requiring the application of publicly
available piping design standards, including ASME B31.3, B31.1 and API 1104.
General Layout Considerations
Pipe Routing and Racks
Layout Specification
Pipe Hangers
Pipe Stress ASME B31.3
Pressure Vessels
The candidate will use an advanced Computer Aided Design
(CAD) system as designated by host company to correctly represent dimensioned
piping drawings and backup electronic client files appropriately.
This class will demonstrate all component skills from prior sections on
completion of a professional project. The project will contain a pump,
vessel, rack and in-line fittings and valves. It will require routing
according to a P&ID and pipe spec and demonstrate constructability, operability
and maintainability. The project will be used to create a professional
portfolio for post program interviews and company assessment.
